In the fall of 2012 I was contacted by Harding to conceptualize and produce a video that told the story of the new president of Harding University. It was to be a story that gives alumni, current students, and future students a personal look at the yet-unnamed incoming fifth president. Dr. Bruce McLarty would be only the fifth president since the university was founded 90 years ago in Searcy, Arkansas. I worked closely with the university during pre-production as I added voices to the story and conducted pre-interviews. By the time it came for me to come film at the University in the summer of 2013 I had woven their vision together with mine. This led to 7 interviews that I knew would invite people into this story of significance, change, and purpose. The University elected not to fly me back down to Arkansas but to have their team shoot the grand inauguration in September. Once I received their footage this meaningful story took shape and I did a quick turnaround and delivered the final cut 12 days after the Inauguration. I hope you enjoy meeting Harding’s Fifth President.
I’m so pleased with the result and I’m enjoying hearing the University’s excitement. I’ve always loved learning and I enjoyed both of my higher education experiences. I would like see university video production to become a regular part of my story productions.
