A few months ago I was invited to lecture at this year’s Online News Association annual conference here in D.C. I was honored to be invited to speak with other journalists from such fine news outlets as The Washington Post, NPR, ABC, and The Los Angeles Times to name a few. I will be representing USA TODAY waxing on the finer points of video storytelling and some of the techniques I use in the field as well as at home while editing larger projects. The conference has already begun and I will be lecturing Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. The national conference is sold out, otherwise I’d invite you to stop on in at the Capital Hilton and say hi. I will have some fantastic support as my girlfriend and mom will be there! As we say in the photojournalism world this is a “happy accident” that my mom is in town for my big speaking engagement.
It is that time of year again. My mom is in town and that means it’s time to celebrate my birthday! You see she comes all the way from California every year around my birthday to celebrate with me! Come Friday I am a year older and hopefully more full of love and grace than the year before. I’ll spend my birthday preparing for my lecture, hanging out with my mom, and then going downtown for a nice dinner with my mom, girlfriend, and my fantastic roomate and close friend Jeff. Maybe later we’ll take a stroll along the mall and catch a glimpse of sunset like this photograph I took in December 2005.
